OCR: Australia's deserts lie in the central and western parts of the continent. The driest areas with less than 4 inches of rain each year are in the center (sometimes called the 'Red Heart of Australia), and include the sandy Simpson desert and the more rocky Gibson desert to the west of the center. The vegetation in these arid areas is mainly porcupine grass, with some shrubs, including dwarf eucalyptus, saltbush and acacia.
